A medical review examined the diagnosis and treatment of uveitis, an inflammatory disease affecting tissues inside the eye. Symptoms may include eye pain, redness, light sensitivity, blurred vision, and an increase in visible floaters.
Researchers explained that uveitis may result from infection or from an abnormal immune response associated with autoimmune disease. Corticosteroids are often used for noninfectious inflammation, while chronic cases may require immunosuppressive drugs, biological treatments, or medicine delivered directly into the eye.
Experts concluded that identifying the cause is essential because infectious and noninfectious uveitis require different treatments. They emphasized cooperation between ophthalmologists and other medical specialists to prevent glaucoma, cataracts, retinal swelling, and permanent vision loss.
