Smartwatches and AI: A New Standard for Early Detection of Heart Disease

Can Smartwatch Detect Arrhythmia?

Nowadays, many researchers are looking into how smartwatches can help find heart rhythm problems. Issues like atrial fibrillation (AF) are major causes of strokes and medical costs, but they are hard to find with standard hospital tests because they don’t happen all the time.

The research was done by looking at 18 studies with over 424,000 people. It checked how watches from companies like Apple, Samsung, and Huawei use light-based sensors (PPG) to track heartbeats in real-time. The results showed that these tools are very reliable, catching almost 100% of heart rhythm issues and being right about 97% of the time overall.

Also, the study looked at how AI can work with these watches. It shows that smart programs can group different types of heartbeats accurately, which helps doctors make fewer mistakes and work faster. This gives people a simple way to check their own heart health in just 30 seconds.

Even though this review shows that using smartwatches is a big step forward, there are still some problems. Most of the results come from perfect research settings instead of everyday life. Also, things like bad signals or “false alarms” could lead to too many unnecessary doctor visits.

In short, using smartwatches to track heart health is becoming a natural part of medicine. These tools offer a new way to find problems early and manage long-term risks. As these gadgets become common, they are expected to help a lot in treating heart issues and preventing serious problems like strokes.
