From Visual Discomfort to 90% Satisfaction: The Efficacy of PPV for Vitreous Floaters
Vitreous floaters is common eye phenomenon, experienced by 76% of total population. However, some patients experience Significant decline in Quality of Life (QoL). For those kinds of people, Pars Plana Vitrectomy (PPV) can be effective treatment option, but still its effect and safety should be evaluated and proven.
The researchers analyzed 18 studies and 2077 eyes(1789 people) and evaluated efficiency and safety. In terms of efficacy, over 90% of patients in most studies were satisfied, improving on life, job, mental stress level, resulting in slight improvement of vision.
In safety,
| Complication | Incidence | EMA Frequency Classification |
|---|---|---|
| Cataract | 31.7% | Very common |
| Retinal tear/break | 2.9% | Common |
| Vitreous hemorrhage | 2.0% | Common |
| Macular edema | 1.7% | Common |
| Retinal detachment | 1.5% | Uncommon |
| Glaucoma | 1.0% | Uncommon |
| Endophthalmitis | 0.18% | Very rare |
As shown in the table, Cataract has the highest probability of being incident. Limited PPV have probability of decreasing probability of cataract.
In conclusion, PPV(Pars Plana Vitrectomy) provide high satisfaction rate and statistically significant vision improvement on vitreous floaters patients, providing breakthrough to the patients who suffered from this disease. With integration of AI technology, it is expected to have lower threats of cataract and more precise surgery.]
