How the IUEC Times Shaped My Pre-Med Career Journey
When I first joined the IUEC Times student journalist team, I thought writing articles would simply be about sharing things I already knew. However, as the weeks went by, I realized that being a journalist is actually about embarking on a deep journey of research. Looking back, this activity has left me with something incredibly valuable such as a much clearer, realistic, and exciting blueprint for my future career.
Before this journalist activity, my goal of “becoming a doctor” was just a vague, distant dream. I only knew the basic path: study hard, go to college, and go to medical school.
However, through my weekly research, my perspective has completely changed. I now know exactly what specific skills I need to succeed on a Pre-Med track in the US. I learned that a great doctor needs to understand both high-tech medicine (like telemedicine to fix healthcare disparities) and human communication. It showed me that to prepare for my future career, I need to build analytical thinking and empathy right now in high school, rather than just memorizing facts for exams.
This program has solidified my passion to study Biology and Pre-Med in the United States. I am now more confident than ever that I want to become a neurologist who uses creative, compassionate ways to heal patients.
As I finish my final article, I am grateful for this experience. The IUEC Times was a launchpad that helped me research my passions, understand my future job, and discover the kind of doctor I want to be. I am ready to take these lessons and step confidently into my next scientific adventure.
